Ronaldo Hints At Retirement, Says ‘This Is Probably My Last Year’

Cristiano Ronaldo has given his clearest indication yet that his extraordinary football career could be approaching its end, admitting that the 2026/27 season will “probably” be his last.

The 41-year-old Portugal captain made the revelation in an interview with Vogue, saying he wants to finish his career having left a lasting legacy.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said.

The Al-Nassr forward has enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades, featuring spells at Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus before moving to Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo has scored 976 goals for club and country and remains determined to reach the remarkable 1,000-goal landmark. He is also the leading scorer in men’s international football, with 146 goals for Portugal.

His honours include five Ballon d’Or awards, five Champions League titles, the European Championship with Portugal and league titles in England, Spain and Italy.

Although Ronaldo has previously avoided putting a firm date on his retirement, his latest comments suggest the end may now be within sight.

The Portuguese star, whose Al-Nassr contract runs until June 2027, also revealed that he has already considered life after football, including travelling, spending more time with his family and playing padel.

For now, Ronaldo remains focused on football, but his latest admission has raised the prospect that supporters could be watching the final chapter of one of the sport’s greatest careers.
