The Rotary Club of Lagos has awarded individuals whose unwavering commitment to peace and conflict resolution has made a significant impact in Lagos community.
In a gesture to mark the global observance of World Peace and Understanding Day, the club said it came to honour individuals whose unwavering commitment to peace has made a significant impact in our community.
The event was led by Rotarian Toki Mabogunje, who was the chairperson of the event. The Rotarian presented the annual Rotary Club of Lagos Peace prizes and awards to the recipients.
According to the club, the awards, embedded in the principles of peace and understanding, underscored the club’s enduring dedication to promoting peacebuilding and conflict resolution at both local and global levels.
In a statement signed by the director of public image, Rotary Club of Lagos, Ifeoma Williams, the awards were presented to: Baale Dr. Makinde Adesola JP; Honorable Ibraheem Bakare Olawale; Mrs. Oluwadamilola Mercy Onabanjo, and Fatima Yerima Askira.
The statement said; ‘‘Baale Dr. Makinde Adesola JP is a Justice of the Peace who has played a pivotal role in promoting inter-party relations and fostering religious harmony within Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area. Honorable Ibraheem Bakare Olawale is a selfless dedicated personnel to the Ifako Gbagada community who has left an indelible mark on the hearts of its residents.
Also, Mrs. Oluwadamilola Mercy Onabanjo is an outstanding contribution to public service as a Higher Law Enforcement Traffic Superintendent at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have garnered widespread recognition, while Fatima Yerima Askira, the founder of the Borno Women Development Initiative (BOWDI), has been a steadfast advocate for peace in conflict-affected regions.”
