The team manager of Rovers FC Calabar, Edem Oyom, has disclosed that several players are battling internal injuries following a ghastly road accident on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at Okada Junction when the vehicle conveying the team to Lagos reportedly lost control and overturned.
Speaking to journalists, Oyom revealed that one of the players, whose identity has not been made public, was initially in critical condition but has since been stabilised.
“I have to stay strong. I can confirm that the player who was in a very critical state is now medically stable,” he said.
He added that while a number of players are responding positively to treatment, medical personnel have raised concerns about internal bleeding among some of the injured athletes.
“Many others are responding to medical attention, but there are still serious concerns. According to the medical team at the facility in Okada, Edo State, some of the players are suffering from internal bleeding,” Oyom explained.
In a bid to ensure more comprehensive care, the affected players have since been transferred to Asaba, Delta State, where they are expected to receive more specialised medical attention.
Oyom assured that the club is making every possible effort to guarantee the players’ recovery.
“We are doing everything within our capacity to ensure they receive the best possible care,” he said.
The team was travelling to Lagos ahead of a scheduled fixture against Sporting Lagos FC at the time of the accident.
