The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an increase in train services on major routes to accommodate the anticipated rise in passenger traffic during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Corporation’s chief public relations officer, Callistus Unyimadu, who said the move is designed to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient rail transportation throughout the festive period.
Unyimadu said, “We recognise the importance of Sallah and the need for increased mobility. These additional services will help Nigerians travel with greater ease.”
According to the statement, the Lagos-Ibadan corridor will receive a temporary boost on Thursday, March 19, with three additional trips.
Trains will depart Ebute Metta at 7:40 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., while departures from Moniya in Ibadan are scheduled for 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
The Corporation further stated that the Abuja-Kaduna route will run two trips on Thursday before increasing to three daily services from Friday through Monday.
It also disclosed that indigenes of Osun State will benefit from free train services between Lagos and Osogbo, an initiative supported by the state government.
Meanwhile, the Warri-Itakpe route will continue its thrice-weekly operations, while the Port Harcourt-Aba service will maintain its existing schedule.
