He spoke at the 12th graduation ceremony of 1,200 up-skilled artisans yesterday at the Blue Roof in Agidingbi, Ikeja.

As part of his administration’s support for artisans, the governor announced an increase in the annual subvention for the Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans from N6 million to N15 million.

Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of training in improving efficiency and effectiveness within their trades, empowering artisans to become employers of labour.

He noted that artisans would help reduce unemployment in the state by creating more jobs and opportunities within their sectors.

“You are here to do things others think can’t be done. You will create opportunities and help reduce unemployment. We will provide you with equipment to help you create even bigger opportunities for yourselves. Keep learning, develop yourself, and always strive to be a role model; others should learn from you”, the governor stated.

The governor further encouraged artisans to expand their businesses by using the state’s Employment Trust Fund, which offers loans at a reduced interest rate of no more than five percent annually.

In his remarks, Akinyele Akingbotafe, the state commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, explained that the training was designed to equip artisans with the technical skills needed to enhance their productivity and introduce innovative practices.

He urged the participants to maintain a positive outlook on their professions and contribute to the state’s economic growth. He also commends the governor for his ongoing support and ministry development.
