American Film star Scarlett Johansson opens up about the difficulties she faced working as a young actress in the early 2000s.
The actress said that at that time, it was “socially acceptable” for women to be “pulled apart for how they looked.”
The Avengers actress, who came to fame for roles in 2003’s Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring, mentioned at a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning that it was a “really harsh time” during that era.
“It was tough. There was a lot placed on how women looked.
“What was offered at that time for women my age, as far as acting roles or opportunities, was much slimmer than it is now,” the Oscar-nominated actress said.
Over twenty years have gone by, and Scarlett Johansson is happy to see “much more empowering roles available” for young women, which were not available back then in her 20s, when there were very few good options.
