School Abductions: Federal Govt’s Attention Has Shifted To 2027 Elections – ACF

The apex northern socio-cultural organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led government of shifting attention and focusing more on 2027 general elections than tackling the present security challenges facing the country.

Speaking in a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP, on Tuesday, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad Baba, condemned the continued abductions of school children.

ACF, while describing the incident as a tragedy, commended Nigerian teachers for protesting against school abductions and insecurity ravaging the country.

According to Muhammad Baba, “Well, you know, as you would imagine, I’m very, very sad about it. Very sad in the sense that these things are going on. And it looks like nothing concrete is being done. Instead of abating, the thing is increasing. And the reason nothing is happening is because the attention of government is shifted to 2027 general election. Meanwhile, the country is suffering”

“The country is breaking. And then when you subject children of all people, if you subject children to such horrendous experience, this is something that will stick to them over their lifetime. So it’s a tragedy, if we are to put it mildly. It’s a great tragedy. And one would prefer to see a situation where government suspends everything and gives thought to stabilizing the country. Security wise, we can go on the way we are going is eating up the nation”

ACF added, “There is no doubt. And anybody who doesn’t see it that way is living in a dream world. And actually, it is something that will turn into a nightmare. We just hope we just hope something will be done. And those teachers protesting, honestly, they are doing they’re doing a good job. It’s just as well. Things should not be happening. And people just condemn it. And keep quiet, especially when it involves children”

“This has happened in Niger State. It has happened in Katsina. It has happened in Borno, in Adamawa. Nobody is doing anything. But it’s just as well the teachers are saying enough is enough. All I would add is enough has been enough for a very long time. But then it is better late than never, because the never really is going to be catastrophic. For the country. So the sooner this is attended to, the better” ACF said.
