The commissioner of police in Rivers State, Okon Effiong, has ordered the transfer of Osaro Bosa Owate, who allegedly killed his mother last weekend to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Port Harcourt.

Owate, who claimed to be suffering spiritual problems, was arrested by youths of Aleto community in Eleme local government area of Rivers State, shortly after allegedly killing his mother.

The community youth leaders later handed him over to the Eleme Police Divisional headquarters, where he was detained.

The police public relations officer in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the main aim of the transfer to SCID was to ensure discreet and thorough investigation.

The suspect had upon his arrest, confessed that he killed his mother, who was in the kitchen by hitting her on the head with a hoe, following disagreements over N10,000.

He had claimed that he needed N20,000 to buy new clothes for the burial of the victim’s friend, but received only N10,000 from his mother.

However, sources in the community dismissed the claims, saying that Owate needed the money to buy illicit drugs.
