The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has affirmed Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe as its national chairman, dismissing claims that a recent court ruling had affected his position.
The party’s national publicity secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, in a statement in Abuja yesterday, said the court judgment was related to the Ekiti governorship primary election and not to the leadership of the party.
“The judgment did not mention Prof. Gombe or the national leadership of the party,” Aiyenigba said, adding that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had reaffirmed Gombe’s position.
“The SDP is moving forward with its plans and will not be distracted by baseless claims, Aiyenigba added, urging members and supporters to remain focused on the party’s goals.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to promoting democracy, social justice and national development, saying it would continue to work for a better Nigeria.
“We urge Nigerians to join us on this mission and build a better future for all,” he said.
Aiyenigba said the party was strengthening its structures and mobilising support across the country to present a strong challenge to the ruling party in 2027.
“The party’s resolve is unwavering, and it will not be deterred from its mission to bring about positive change in the country,” he stated.
