The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Na’Abba.
The national chairman of SDP, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, in a video on social media, conveyed the party’s condolences to the families of Na’Abba and Akeredolu.
He described the deaths of Na’Abba and Akeredolu as a great loss to the nation, acknowledging their significant contributions to the country.
Gabam acknowledged the significant contributions of Na’Abba to the development of democracy, recognising his leadership, dedication, and tireless efforts in advancing the cause of democracy.
The SDP national chairman called on the people of Ondo and Kano States and the entire nation to unite in prayers and mourn the loss of these distinguished leaders.
“The passing of Governor Akeredolu and Hon. Ghali Umar Na’abba is a great loss to our nation. They were leaders of exceptional caliber, and their legacies will endure in the hearts and minds of the people they served. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this challenging time.
“I’m pleading with the federal government and the national assembly to immortalise Ghali Na’Abba,” he said.
The SDP national also expressed deep concern over the recent killings in Kaduna, Zamfara and Plateau States respectively while calling on President Bola Tinubu to ensure the security of lives and property as he promised while taking his oath of office.
He said, “Mr president, you applied for this job and you promised to secure the lives and property of Nigerians. So we cannot afford to continue like this. Nigeria’s population is over 200 million. It is a blessing but it will not be a blessing when this large number of people rise against the government.
“Mr president, I’m appealing to you to redouble the budget to accommodate the physical policy of our country,” he said.
