Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the state, including Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Alabo Abiye Sekibo, and former governor, Sir Celestine Omehia, have decided to support his administration and that of President Bola Tinubu.

Fubara made the revelation during the 2026 New Year State Banquet held on Thursday night at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

Addressing guests at the event, the governor said the presence of the respected political figures at the banquet signified their open commitment to his government and to the success of President Tinubu’s administration.

“Prince Uche Secondus, Right Honourable Austin Opara, His Excellency Celestine Omehia, and others here with us have joined us at this New Year Banquet to tell the world that they stand with the administration of Siminalayi Fubara,” the governor said.

“You are sitting with us boldly so that people will know you are not doing ‘corner-corner’ politics, but standing with Fubara. And because you are standing with Fubara, your support is for Mr. President.”

Fubara expressed gratitude to the leaders for their decision, noting that their public show of support carried great political significance.

“We’ve been blackmailed in several places because of your political activities and your names. But I’m happy that you told me you would come and sit with us so that the world will know that you’re with us and have no affiliation whatsoever with any other group against Mr. President,” he stated.

The governor further noted that their support was not about personal loyalty to him but about protecting the interests of Rivers State.

“Your choosing to support us is not because of me — it’s to protect Rivers State. Let us not be fooled by whatever is happening,” Fubara cautioned.

“Caesar once said the only reason why the dog barks is when it doesn’t understand. If you have a dog in your house and the dog knows you, does it need to bark? So when the dogs start barking, maybe they’re saying something they don’t understand. We’re not barking because we understand. We know where we’re going.”

The governor assured that all measures were in place to ensure a smooth and purposeful administration.

“All the things needed to make the journey smooth and easy are already set. Let me thank everyone, especially for finding time to be here tonight,” he concluded.

The development came amid renewed tension between Governor Fubara and his estranged political godfather, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Wike, who had supported Fubara’s emergence in 2023, recently accused the governor of deviating from the peace terms brokered by President Tinubu following their initial fallout. The FCT Minister has repeatedly maintained that “agreement is agreement,” asking the Rivers State people not make the same mistake they did by electing Fubara again in 2027.

again in 2027.
