After weeks of combing forests, bodies of six police officers that were murdered in Delta State have been discovered and recovered.
The slain policemen were drafted from IRT Abuja, PMF 51 Oghara and anti-kidnapping squad, Asaba in Delta State to rescue three missing officers in Ohoror community, Ughelli North Local Government area of the state.
The corpses were recovered by a combined team of security agents and members of the local vigilantes from the area.
Impeccable sources said the combined team stormed the forest on Sunday and Monday before they could recover some of the corpses.
Operational huts of the suspected killer herdsmen were also destroyed as six corpses were recovered from Agadama bush, while others are still missing.
A senior security source at the Delta State Police Command, confirmed the development on condition of anonymity.
“The recovered corpses of the officers have been deposited at Mariere Central Hospital morgue in Ughelli.
“While depositing them at the morgue, some officials of the Delta State government were with the vigilante members, though it was not confirmed if the officials were representatives of the government.
“They spent over three hours at the hospital morgue during the documentation before being attended to at Ughelli Central Hospital.”
Recall that three police officers were on January, 24, 2024, dispatched to Ohoror community following a distressed call by one Moses Progress who was allegedly robbed by suspected herdsmen while performing sacrifice to the gods of the river under a bridge close to the nipping point.
The killing of the six officers and attack on 15 others still currently missing was confirmed by a Police Inspector, who escaped from the herdsmen captivity days later.
