Security Operatives Foil Attempted Intrusion Into NIPSS In Plateau

Security operatives have foiled an attempted intrusion into the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:30 a.m. when security personnel on duty detected suspicious movements around the institute’s perimeter.

According to sources, the operatives responded immediately, securing the area and forcing the suspected intruders to flee into nearby bushes before they could gain access to the facility.

No casualties were recorded, while normal activities at the institute continued uninterrupted.

Attempts to obtain official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Enduring Peace were unsuccessful.

Calls placed to the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, and the spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, were not answered as of the time of filing this report.

Similarly, efforts to obtain comments from the management of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies were unsuccessful.

The latest incident comes less than two weeks after the federal government ordered an immediate review and strengthening of security around NIPSS and other critical national institutions following an earlier security breach at the institute.

During a visit to the institution, Vice President Kashim Shettima said the directive was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening security around strategic national assets and preventing future breaches.

According to the Vice President, the measures under consideration include enhanced surveillance systems, stronger perimeter fencing, improved access control and increased deployment of security personnel.

Shettima also assured that those responsible for previous security incidents at the institute would be identified and brought to justice.

At the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the attempted intrusion or provide further details on the identities and motives of the suspected intruders.
