Senator Samuel Anyanwu has charged legal practitioners to deploy their efforts towards the sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy, warning against any acts capable of threatening the peace and tranquillity of the country.
Senator Anyanwu gave the charge on Monday while addressing members of Ikeduru Lawyers Association in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
He promised to assist them achieve their desired objectives of ensuring justice, equity and fairness to Nigerians. He said if such constitutional mandate is realised, corruption will be prominently condemned.
Anyanwu maintained that as professionals, it is the responsibility of the lawyers to sensitize the public on the need to shun and desist from committing crimes, adding that the rate at which people are killed is evidence that things have fallen apart.
While describing them as apostles of judicial transformation, Anyanwu, the National Secretary of PDP, further challenged the lawyers to remain their brother’s keeper and ensure that the court in Ikeduru is adequately looked after to guarantee speedy dispensation of justice.
On behalf of his colleagues, the group’s chairman, Barr Chuks Agbugba, commended Anyanwu for assisting the body.
He maintained that Senator Anyanwu remains one of the credible leaders in Ikeduru local government area that identifies with them, assuring of their willingness to reciprocate the gesture when necessary.
Agbugba said his members will do their best to encourage the sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy, pointing out that Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the state is working tirelessly to make corruption unattractive.
