The senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Barr Sunday Marshall Katung has visited the Ribang community in Kauru local government area of Kaduna State and offered condolences to the families affected by the tragic incident of the death of eight junior secondary school students.
The students who went to write the Junior WAEC from Government Secondary School, Fadan Chawai, lost their lives when they drowned in the Mbang River while returning home.
During his visit, Senator Katung expressed his concern about the poor state of the road leading to the community and the absence of a bridge.
He appealed to governments at all levels to address the people’s plight by constructing a bridge for the community.
The senator prayed for comfort for the immediate family, Chawai Chiefdom, and the entire people of Kauru local government area. He hoped that the loss of these young lives would catalyse positive change and development in the community.
Katung pledged to work with the state and federal governments to bring social amenities to communities needing assistance. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and the provision of necessary infrastructure to improve people’s lives.
The village head of Ribang, Mr Garba Madaki, expressed gratitude to Senator Katung and his entourage for the visit. He highlighted the community’s lack of access to roads and healthcare facilities, making it difficult for them to transport their farm produce to markets. The village head appealed to the government for assistance in addressing these challenges.
