The Senate has assured that the national minimum wage bill will be given prompt attention as soon as it is received from the executive.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, yesterday emphasised the senate’s commitment to the security and welfare of Nigerians.

He stated, “If immediately after Sallah, the bill is brought by Mr. President, to the National Assembly, it’s going to be dealt with, with the speed of lightning.”

Adaramodu added that the bill would be thoroughly scrutinised and processed without delay, as it is in the best interest of Nigerian workers.

Regarding the disparities in wage proposals, Adaramodu expressed confidence in reaching an agreement among all parties involved, including the federal government, sub-nationals and the organised private sector.

He emphasized the need for a comprehensive and enforceable bill that will be adhered to by all.  Adaramodu also called on the NLC to advocate for workers beyond the federal level and ensure compliance with the minimum wage across all sectors.

He affirmed the senate’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerian workers and stated that any non-compliance with the minimum wage law would face appropriate sanctions.  He urged all stakeholders to work together in ensuring the successful implementation of the new minimum wage.
