The Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District of Cross River State at the National Assembly, Eteng Williams, has flagged off the Light-Up Central project with over 1,000 solar streetlights as part of his effort to fulfill the campaign promise of updating basic infrastructure that will bring succour to his constituents.

The first phase of the initiative that was kickstarted in Yakurr local government area of the State is expected to light up several communities and villages within the Central Senatorial District of the state.

The lawmaker, who flagged off the project in Yakurr, stated that the initiative was borne out of the need to boost the night economy of his constituency to enhance social interaction as well as check insecurity in the Senatorial District.

“You see, my people are mostly farmers. They go to farms very early in the morning and come back sometimes very late in the evening, yet proceed almost immediately to the market to sell some of their farm produce.

“This will ensure they adequately harness the night economy and safely, that is why this initiative was birthed,” The lawmaker maintained.

Eteng, who is the immediate-past Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, averred that apart from electricity, attention will also be given to markets, community assemblies, development of market stalls, and accessible roads to fast-track development in the constituency.
