Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central/PDP), has partnered with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and United Nations Women Organisation to empower female constituents.

This was disclosed during a town hall meeting themed: “Women’s Political Participation and Presentation”, organised to canvass greater representation of women in leadership and political roles.

A statement on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the lawmaker, Arogbonlo Israel said Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan shared her experiences as a female legislator in Nigeria during the town hall meeting, highlighting the skepticism women often face in leadership roles.

“During the last town hall meeting, you shared your concerns, and we are here to address them, particularly to support your enterprises. As part of our one-year celebration in office, I’ve been able to secure significant entrepreneurship support for you,” she stated.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also outlined her accomplishments in her first year in office, which include infrastructure development, educational reforms, agricultural support, and security initiatives which include renovation of police stations as well as provision of water systems, renovation of primary healthcare centres, amongst others.

She equally urged the United Nations Women Organisation to help curb maternal mortality at the local communities by deploying resources to primary healthcare facilities within the senatorial district.

The federal lawmaker further emphasised her commitment to making education accessible to all while also distributing digital learning devices to public schools, and providing farmers with fertilizers and training.

Additionally, the Senator announced future projects, such as a Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Centre and a Mechatronic Centre, designed to promote technological advancement in the region.

In his remarks, Prof. Shola Omotosho, a representative from NILDS, lauded Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s achievements in her first year, underscoring the significance of her legacy projects.

“From her record of performance so far, we are convinced that when we empower women of integrity and intellect, they will use that power responsibly and effectively for the benefit of the people.

“We hope that with the support of the UN and NILDS, Senator Natasha’s accomplishments will inspire and mentor other women to enter into politics,” he remarked.
