The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has said it didn’t receive any resignation letter from Senator Ahmed Wadada, adding that he still remains a member of the party.

National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, stated this after the briefing journalists on Tuesday after the exercise.

He said, “You cannot belong to two parties, base on the law, until due process is followed, therefore Wadada remains SDP member,” he stated.

Recall that Wadada was recently endorsed by the Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, to be his successor in the state.

Earlier, the SDP National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, has declared itself fully compliant with electoral laws following a verification exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission at its national headquarters in Abuja.

He said the INEC team of 11 officials conducted a thorough assessment of the SDP’s National Executive Committee, National Working Committee, and administrative framework.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday after the exercise, Gombe explained that the review included physical identification of party leaders, checks on financial books, staff strength verification, and inspection of offices to confirm national spread.

He stated that all NEC members attended the verification, including chairmen from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. “Our full representation shows unity and obedience to the law,” he said.

According to the chairman, INEC also examined the party’s membership register in both digital and printed forms, alongside documents covering headquarters operations and funding records.

He affirmed that the SDP meets the Electoral Act requirement of maintaining offices in at least two-thirds of the federation. Adding that all statutory returns have been filed with the commission.

He noted the May 9, 2026, deadline for submission of membership registers and the May 30, 2026, cutoff for primaries, saying the party is on course to meet all INEC timelines.

On internal governance, the chairman maintained that NEC resolutions are binding, referencing Supreme Court rulings that place party affairs within the exclusive domain of political parties.

Gombe insisted the current leadership was produced at a legitimate NEC meeting in March 2025, which INEC observed. “We have nothing to hide. Our processes are transparent,” he added

He cited a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the SDP’s position in key disputes, including the Ekiti governorship case.

He commended party leaders nationwide for driving membership registration and expressed confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, urging accurate reporting and reaffirming the SDP’s commitment to democracy.

End.
