Chidi Okezie, a seasoned athlete representing Team Nigeria at the Senior African Athletics Championships, has expressed his determination to secure a podium finish in the men’s 200m final. Okezie, primarily a 400m specialist, emphasised his goal is not merely to participate but to deliver a memorable performance.
He highlighted the distinct demands of the 200m compared to his preferred 400m event. “200m is half the distance, but 400m is my pride and joy, so I take care because it’s technical,” Okezie explained. “In 200m it’s all out, more speed, a strong start and finishing strong. It’s a different type of race.”
Okezie attributed his motivation to his personal standards and a belief in a greater purpose. He also offered advice to younger teammates, encouraging discipline and patience in their athletic development. “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” he reminded them, “so you may have a bad race, a bad training session, it’s all part of that piece to a puzzle.”
