Seplat’s Plant Maintenance to Cut Gas, Power For 4 Days—NNPC

Seplat Energy Plc is set to shut down its major gas production facilities for routine maintenance from February 12 to 15, slashing supply to the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC) pipeline network and risking a four-day dip in power generation.

According to a public notice from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC), Seplat’s joint venture partner, described the work as essential safety protocols. “This planned activity forms part of standard industry safety and asset integrity protocols designed to ensure the continued reliability, efficiency, and safe operation of critical gas infrastructure,” NNPC chief corporate communications officer Andy Odeh stated in the release.
As a result, power plants reliant on NGIC gas may see reduced availability during the period, modestly curbing electricity output, NNPC warned.

The national grid, where gas drives over 80 per cent of generation per industry data, could feel added strain amid dry season demand.
To mitigate this, the NNPC said the NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) is securing alternative supplies, while it and Seplat target a safe, timely finish.
The national oil firm said full flows should resume right after, normalising power operations, per the notice.NNPC emphasised the exercise bolsters long-term resilience, aligning with Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) guidelines.
