Sevilla manager Matias Almeyda has revealed that he chose to bench Akor Adams during their 2-0 defeat to Valencia on Saturday due to dissatisfaction with his performance against Barcelona the previous week.
Adams has been a standout player for Sevilla this season, netting seven goals and providing several assists in 23 appearances, making him the team’s leading scorer. However, Almeyda opted to start Neal Maupay at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán instead of the Nigerian forward.
Unfortunately, this tactical change did not produce the desired results, as Sevilla found themselves two goals down by half-time, with strikes from Hugo Duro and Largie Ramazani.
In response to the deficit, Almeyda brought Adams on at the beginning of the second half, but Sevilla was unable to find the back of the net.
Following the match, Almeyda explained, “We have three strikers, and I’m trying them out to see who can score goals. I brought Neal back after his injury, and I wasn’t pleased with Akor’s last performance, so we decided to rotate the squad. It’s very challenging to keep everyone satisfied.”
