Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has appealed to aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State to set aside their grievances, embrace dialogue and work towards rebuilding the party’s unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor appealed on Thursday while inaugurating a 25-member APC Reconciliation Committee at the Government House in Gombe, saying the move was aimed at healing internal divisions arising from the party’s recent congresses, primary elections and local government polls.
Addressing party faithful, Yahaya noted that while the political exercises were largely successful, some aspirants and party faithful were dissatisfied with their outcomes. “Perfection belongs only to Almighty God. As human beings, we are bound to make mistakes in our daily dealings. It is therefore understandable that some decisions and outcomes arising from these political processes may not have gone down well with some of our members, particularly those who aspired for elective offices but were unsuccessful,” he said.
The governor urged aggrieved members to place the party’s collective interest above personal ambitions. “We need to sheath our swords and embrace dialogue so that we can put our house in order as the 2027 general elections draw closer. Our strength lies in our unity, and together we must build a stronger and more formidable APC.”
Yahaya said the reconciliation committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, would engage dissatisfied members through dialogue, rebuild trust, promote forgiveness and strengthen cohesion within the ruling party.
He noted that the committee was established following a series of party activities, including congresses at various levels, governorship and legislative primaries, as well as the recently concluded local government and Local Council Development Area elections.
The governor tasked members of the committee to carry out their assignment with fairness, sincerity and commitment, stressing that the success of the reconciliation exercise would play a critical role in the APC’s performance in the next general elections.
He also directed the committee to maintain strict confidentiality throughout the exercise, warning that sensitive information should not be allowed to fall into the hands of political opponents. He further empowered the committee to co-opt additional members where necessary and decentralise its operations across the state’s three senatorial districts to expedite the reconciliation process.
Governor Yahaya reiterated the party’s ambition to retain all elective positions in Gombe State in 2027 and deliver no fewer than one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while securing victory for the APC governorship candidate, six National Assembly candidates and all 24 House of Assembly candidates.
Earlier, the Gombe State APC Chairman, Mohammed Dantata Ndus, described the committee as credible and urged its members to work tirelessly to reunite the party and consolidate the achievements of the Inuwa Yahaya administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its chairman and Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, thanked the governor and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that members would discharge their responsibilities with fairness and diligence.
