Sheriff Blasts Obi Over Tinubu Resignation Call, Alleges He Is Pursuing Nigeria’s Breakup

Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has launched a scathing attack on the Presidential  Candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, , Peter Obi, declaring that he lacks the moral authority to demand the resignation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sheriff accused the former Anambra State governor of allegedly pursuing an agenda that could undermine Nigeria’s unity, insisting that anyone perceived to be sympathetic to separatist movements cannot credibly call for the resignation of a democratically elected president.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Sheriff alleged that Obi had failed to clearly dissociate himself from pro-Biafra agitation, claiming that his political posture raised questions about his commitment to the unity of the country.

According to him, Obi is “the most unqualified person” to ask Tinubu to resign because Nigeria’s presidency requires absolute loyalty to the country’s unity and territorial integrity.

He argued that the sacrifices made by Nigerians during the civil war to keep the country together should not be trivialised by politicians whom he accused of promoting divisive sentiments.

Sheriff challenged Obi to publicly declare that he does not support the breakup of Nigeria, maintaining that such a statement would clear doubts about his political position.

“I challenge Peter Obi to come out openly and say he does not believe in dividing Nigeria. As far as I am concerned, he is the least qualified person to ask President Tinubu to resign,” Sheriff said.

The former governor further maintained that Nigeria had since moved beyond the civil war era and should remain united despite its political and ethnic differences.

His comments followed Obi’s repeated calls on President Tinubu to resign  over alleged leadership failure.
