Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the late former governor of the defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as a pillar of democracy and an iconic peace builder who contributed immensely to the development of democracy in Nigeria.

Shettima stated this in Yola when he led a high-powered federal government delegation to condole with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and the people of Adamawa State over the death of the former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

The vice president said he was in Yola to convey the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the government and people of the state.

He described the death of the former governor as a great loss, not only to Adamawa State but to Nigeria as a whole.

Shettima said Tinubu has called on the people of Adamawa and Nigerians in general to emulate the legacies of the late Bamanga Tukur, whose life, he said, was dedicated to peace, democracy and service to humanity.

Earlier, while welcoming the vice president, Governor Fintiri expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the show of sympathy and solidarity with the people of the state and the Adamawa Emirate Council.

Governor Fintiri prayed to Allah to reward the President abundantly for the gesture.

The Vice President, alongside Governor Fintiri, later proceeded to the palace of the Lamido Adamawa, Alhaji Doctor Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, where they condoled with the traditional ruler and the Adamawa Emirate Council over the death of Tafida Adamawa, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

Responding, the Lamido of Adamawa thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the condolence visit and for sending the Federal Government delegation to Adamawa State.
