Dr. Nnamdi Chamberlain Dunkwu, President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF), has tragically passed away after collapsing at his residence on Saturday morning.
His sudden death occurred just hours before he was due to attend the “Swim to the Future” programme, a key talent discovery event he had meticulously helped organize.
Sources close to the family confirmed that efforts to revive Dr. Dunkwu were unsuccessful.
A close associate revealed to BSN Sports that the late sports administrator had been actively involved in final preparations for the event, even overseeing arrangements at the stadium on Friday.
Dr. Dunkwu’s passing has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian sporting community, particularly within aquatics and swimming circles. Only days prior, he had led an NAqF delegation on a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, reaffirming the federation’s partnership with the Nigerian Navy.
Elected in October 2025 for the 2025–2029 board cycle, Dr. Dunkwu had quickly become a driving force behind an ambitious grassroots development program. His vision aimed to bolster Nigerian swimming through school-based, junior, and regional competitions, ultimately seeking to improve the nation’s performance in aquatic sports and expand talent discovery nationwide.
Details surrounding his death remain limited at this time.
