Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, Shooting Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors, have been handed challenging assignments in the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 continental competition following Thursday’s draw in Cairo.
Shooting Stars will face Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien in the first preliminary round, with the Ibadan-based side set to host the first leg at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne.
The return fixture will take place in Sfax, with the winner on aggregate advancing to the second preliminary round, where they will meet either Côte d’Ivoire’s AF Amadou Diallo or Sierra Leone’s East End Lions.
El-Kanemi Warriors, meanwhile, will begin their campaign against Guinea-Bissau’s União Desportiva Internacional (UDIB).
Should the Maiduguri-based club overcome UDIB, they will face a tough second preliminary round tie against Moroccan powerhouse Raja Casablanca, who are among the eight clubs exempted from the opening round.
The first-leg fixtures across the competition are scheduled for September 4–6, while the return legs will be played between September 11 and 13.
Both Nigerian clubs will be aiming to navigate the preliminary rounds successfully and secure places in the group stage of Africa’s second-tier club competition.
