Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has disclosed that the sitting capacity of the modernised and upgraded Osogbo Township Stadium will increase from 4,000 to 15,000 upon completion.
He commended the speedy and qualitative ongoing remodelling of the stadium.
Speaking after an early morning daily project review session, which started last week, the governor said the increased capacity will attract major sporting events to boost the development of all games in the state.
He particularly expressed happiness at the involvement of several foreign technical partners working with the contractors to ensure that the new stadium meets FIFA standards and eventually secures FIFA certification.
He said: “In remodelling the stadium, we must satisfy global standards. I am happy with the involvement of local and international experts to ensure we meet FIFA and all associated standards. This is the way to finally integrate Osun into the mainstream of sports development in the country.
“As a sports-loving governor, I am eager to ensure that the Osun Sports Trust Fund becomes operational.
We are working around the clock to meet legal requirements and to develop appropriate policy frameworks, among other things.
“We are also working to fully operationalise the Osun State Sport Commission. This and other structures are being put in place to address the many challenges facing the Sport sector. I have a vision of an Osun state sport sector with modern facilities, an empowered workforce and big opportunities for sportsmen and women”
While commending the contractor for a job well done so far, Governor Adeleke applauded the deputy governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the commissioner for sports, for demonstrating a deep commitment to completing the project.
