Operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, were briefly disrupted on Wednesday after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) shut down the Temporary Terminal (T3) following a smoke incident caused by an electrical spark.
The incident occurred at about 14:05 hours in one of the operational offices within the terminal, leading to the emission of smoke and prompting immediate safety measures.
FAAN, in a swift response, suspended activities at the terminal to allow for urgent inspection and maintenance of the affected electrical systems.
Ongoing electrical maintenance is aimed at ensuring that all installations are functioning optimally before the terminal is reopened for normal operations.
As a result of the disruption, all flights previously scheduled to depart from Terminal 3 have been redirected to Terminal 2. Passengers have been advised to take note of the change and cooperate with airport officials to avoid confusion or delays.
The authority assured that the situation was promptly brought under control by personnel of the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS), who responded quickly to contain the incident and prevent escalation.
FAAN emphasised that safety remains its top priority and reiterated its commitment to maintaining secure and efficient airport operations.
