The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has elected its first female President Engr. Mrs. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE in Its 65 years of existence to steer the affairs for the next two years.

Mrs Oguntola was elected at the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held on Thursday 21 December 2023.

She was elected alongside other members of the National Executive Committee.

The President of NSE Engr.Tasiu Sa’ad Gidari-Wudil, FNSE said the election was held after the court case instituted by one of the aggrieved contestants’ of 2021 elections had been resolved.

He explained „the background information is that one of the contestants in the 2021 elections who felt aggrieved about the outcome of the election results went to an Abuja High Court and secured an interlocutory injunction stopping the 2023 elections.

“The elections were supposed to be held during the last AGM to elect the 2024 Officers into the National Executive Committee and the Statutory Audit Committee, but had to be put on hold to respect the court’s order. However, the AGM gave approval for the President to call an Extra-Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) after the court case had been resolved.

“I am happy to announce to you that on December 18, 2023, the Court, having taken the Application filed by the Society challenging the said Order and the arguments of both Counsels, set-aside the Order (Interlocutory Injunction) it made on November 24, 2023.
