Succour has come the way of People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in Sokoto state as Governor Ahmed Aliyu, in fulfilment of his campaign promise, commenced payment of N6,500 monthly stipends.

Recall that Governor Aliyu, in his inauguration speech, promised to reintroduce payment of monthly stipends to PLWDs.

A statement by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa made available to journalists said the payment took place in different centers, simultaneously.

The three centers located in Sokoto North, Dange Shuni and Gwadabawa local governments, witnessed large turnout of the already screened PLWDs, who received N6,500 each as their monthly stipends, Bawa said in the statement.

Some of beneficiaries interviewed commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for restoring the monthly stipends.

Abubakar Suleiman, one of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent at the Sokoto North payment center said, “the stipends would go a long way in improving their living condition.

“The return of our monthly stipends will also reduce street begging.”

The governor set up a committee to actualize the restoration of the payment of the monthly stipends which has since commenced.
