The Sokoto State government has expressed appreciation to LEADERSHIP Newspaper for its dedication to factual and balanced reporting, especially in an era where misinformation can quickly spread.

During a visit to the corporate headquarters of LEADERSHIP, the state commissioner for Information and orientation, Alhaji Sambo Bello, along with his team, commended the newspaper’s professionalism in handling reports about the state government. They acknowledged that LEADERSHIP is a credible media outlet in the country.

Bello emphasised the importance of maintaining a cordial working relationship between the government and the media.

He noted that while the state welcomes constructive criticism, it is vital for reports to be well-researched and cross-checked before publication.

He particularly praised LEADERSHIP for steering clear of unverified reports, such as the recent controversy surrounding an alleged ₦30 billion story that was later debunked.

Bello also highlighted Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s efforts to improve the state’s infrastructure and address pressing issues such as road accidents.

He pointed out that these achievements should be accurately reported to ensure the public is well-informed about the state government’s initiatives.

The commissioner reiterated the state’s commitment to working closely with credible media organizations like LEADERSHIP, acknowledging that the media is crucial in promoting unity, peace, and responsible governance.

He invited the organisation to draft a proposal for future collaborations to further enhance the relationship between the state government and the media house.

A representative of the LEADERSHIP team, led by managing editor Raliat Ahmed-Yusuf, assured the Sokoto State government that the newspaper would continue to be a partner in progress and contribute positively to the development of the state and the nation.

Also, the story’s head, Bayo Amodu, emphasised the importance of using media platforms to showcase the government’s efforts and projects.

Amodu suggested the possibility of the state sponsoring a dedicated page in LEADERSHIP, which would serve as a platform to highlight the state government’s achievements and developmental projects.

He stressed that “if you don’t blow your own trumpet, nobody will blow it for you,” underlining the significance of proactive communication to ensure that the public is well-informed about the progress in Sokoto State.

Citing recent examples, such as Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s tree-planting project and the governor’s visit to Tangaza, where relief materials were personally distributed, Amodu noted that such impactful activities should be highlighted more prominently in the media.
