Sokoto State commissioner for Health, Dr Faruku Umar Abubakar, has given two weeks ultimatum to people residing in staff quarters within hospitals across the state that are not active in service to vacate or face ejection.

He gave the directive when he paid an unscheduled visit to General Hospitals in Wurno, Tangaza and Binji local government areas.

Dr Faruku Abubakar said this is because most of the houses are being occupied by non-staff of the hospitals.

According to him this situation has denied personnel in active service accommodation within such hospitals to enable them provide adequate services to patients visiting the hospital for medication.

At General Hospital Wurno, the Commissioner expressed displeasure over the poor sanitary condition of the hospital and charged them to change for the better.

He also directed them to forward all their challenges through the state Hospital Services Management Board for necessary action.

At Tangaza and Binji General Hospitals, the Commissioner while being conducted round various wards of the hospitals, assured that effort are on by the state government to address the challenges affecting the smooth operations of the hospitals.

He also announced that the state government had already approved the procurement of ultrasound machine for General Hospital Tangaza in an effort to improve its services.

During the visit, the Commissioner was conducted round various sections of the hospitals by their Principal Medical Officers.
