Sokoto State commissioner for Energy, Alhaji Sanusi Danfulani, has assured the residents of the state of improved electricity supply in 2026.
The commissioner gave the assurance yesterday after defending the ministry’s 2026 budget before the state House of Assembly, amid growing public concern over electricity supply in some parts of the state.
Danfulani expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the budget defence, saying members of the House were impressed with the ministry’s presentation.
“We have defended our budget. The House is happy with us, and we are working in harmony with the government. They graciously approved our presentation,” he said.
The commissioner described energy as the foundation of development, stressing that the present administration had accorded priority to the power sector to stimulate growth and improve the living standards of the people.
Danfulani said, “Energy is the bedrock of development all over the world. His Excellency, Governor Ahmad Aliyu, has placed emphasis on the Ministry of Energy for the development of the state and for the benefit of our people. We are doing everything possible to actualise our plans.
”Overall, there are ongoing efforts to increase energy generation and supply in the state to boost socio-economic development across the state,” he said.
The commissioner explained that the government’s major focus is on expanding access to electricity, noting that improved power supply would unlock development in other critical sectors of the state.
“Efforts are also being intensified in the area of renewable and environmentally friendly energy, particularly solar power and other green energy initiatives, in line with global best practices.
“A major power plant under the state’s energy plan is expected to be completed and put into use in 2026, which would significantly enhance electricity generation and availability in Sokoto.
“The plant is expected to come on stream in 2026, and that will greatly improve electricity supply in the state,” Danfulani said.
