A total of 376 public primary and secondary schools in Sokoto State are to be renovated under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), a World Bank-funded intervention project.

The schools slated for renovation are 376 girls and mixed schools comprising of classrooms, hostels including fencing.

The steering committee chairman of the Sokoto AGILE Project, Hon. Tukur Muhammed Alkali, stated this yesterday at the inaugural steering committee meeting on the AGILE project in the state.

To show the state government commitment to the programme, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has released the sum of N200million, with N15Omillion as counterpart fund and N50million for the take-off of the project in the state.

Alkali, who is also the commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state, noted that the meeting was to educate stakeholders in the education sector in the state on the aims and objectives of the AGILE project.

“All stakeholders are very critical in the implementation of the AGILE project; therefore, they must be involved to ensure its sustainability.

“We are focusing on sensitizing all critical stakeholders; we want people in the state to know much about AGILE and, expect all the categories of participants to drive the project in their own capacity.

“We want them to take ownership in the implementation of the project in the state,’’ he explained.
Alkali commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu, and every stakeholder for their continued support for the success of the project.
