Soldiers have tracked down and arrested an Uber driver, identified as Augustine Adimabua, days after he allegedly stole an iPhone 16 phone entrusted to him for delivery to a customer.
The incident came to light after an X user, @Molayoo_, narrated the ordeal in a series of posts on Saturday, April 18, detailing how the driver reportedly absconded with the parcel.
According to her, the suspect “cancelled the ride midway and switched off his phone after he picked up the parcel with the phone inside,” raising immediate concerns about the safety of the delivery.
She also shared screenshots of messages sent to the Uber support team, in which she complained about the incident and sought assistance in locating the driver and recovering the device.
In an update posted on Thursday, April 24, the X user revealed that soldiers were able to trace the driver to his residence, where he was subsequently apprehended.
She revealed that some soldiers tracked the Uber rider to his house and apprehended him. “He has been caught and handed over to the right authorities. Thanks to every single one of you that made this possible,” the post read, accompanied by a video showing the suspect being interrogated.
Further details shared online alleged that the driver had already disposed of the device. According to the user, “the suspect sold the phone for N400,000.”
The video of the interrogation has since circulated widely on social media, sparking conversations around the safety of using ride-hailing services for parcel deliveries and the accountability mechanisms available to customers.
