Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has directed all political appointees in his administration to vacate their positions and hand over responsibilities to senior civil servants in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The directive, issued just a day after his second-term inauguration, mandates affected officials to conclude handover processes to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their offices no later than the close of work on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
The announcement was conveyed in a statement signed by Nwabufo Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. The move is seen as a transitional step ahead of the تشكيل of a new cabinet for the governor’s second term.
In addition, all members of the outgoing first-term cabinet have been invited to a meeting with the governor scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the ANSEC Chambers, Light House, Awka.
The development follows the governor’s swearing-in ceremony held on Tuesday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, where Chukwuma Soludo officially began his second term alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim.
In his inaugural address, Soludo highlighted key achievements of his first term, particularly in the area of security. He declared an end to the long-standing sit-at-home disruptions, noting that economic and social activities have largely resumed across the state.
“The debilitating one-sit-at-home is over, and our schools, markets, businesses, and public servants are back to work,” he said, adding that Anambra is now regarded as one of the safest states in Nigeria.
The ceremony drew several high-profile dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Soludo’s re-election followed his victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship poll, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
