South West Commission Partners Lions Club On Planned Food Bank In Osun

The chief executive officer of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), Dr Charles Akinola, has pledged his commitment to key into the Lions Club International District 404-B6 plan to establish a food bank to alleviate the suffering of the underprivileged in Osun State.

Akinola, who was the keynote speaker at the inauguration of Chief Sunday Akere as the pioneer governor of Lions Club International District 404-B6 in Osogbo, pledged to advance community development and expand humanitarian services by ensuring the actualisation of the club’s projects.

He maintained that Lions Club International is a globally respected humanitarian organisation which interventions are synonymous with compassionate service, noting that it plays a complementary role to the government by strengthening communities through voluntary service.

His words,  I have come to the clear conclusion that original development is impossible without action. The government has authority, the private sector has capital and enterprise; private institutions have legitimacy, civil society has reach, state-based organisations have values, while universities have knowledge.

But no civil institution has all the answers,” he said.

He congratulated Akere on his election as the club’s first district Governor, expressing confidence that his leadership would deepen the club’s humanitarian impact and inspire greater volunteerism in the region.

In his acceptance speech, Akere pledged to provide purposeful leadership that would strengthen the district’s activities while expanding humanitarian projects for underserved communities.

He noted that, during his service year, he would expand his advocacy and focus on vision care, pediatric cancer, diabetes, the environment, youth development, hunger relief, disaster relief, and mental health awareness.
