Pentecostal clerics in Nigeria’s Southeast have been urged to sustain prayers for the country and its leaders amid the nation’s socio-economic and political challenges.
The call was made during a meeting between the Southeast chapter of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN) and representatives of Pentecostal churches from the five Southeast states held in Awka, Anambra State.
Speaking after the meeting, the Deputy National Leader of RHGN for the Southeast, Mazi Franklin Ngoforo, said the engagement was part of the group’s consultations with key stakeholders in the region ahead of the 2027 general election.
Ngoforo described the church as an important institution in promoting peace, national unity and democratic values, adding that the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss issues affecting the country and the Southeast.
He also highlighted some of the Federal Government’s initiatives in the region, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission, increased federal allocations to states and ongoing discussions on state policing and other reforms.
According to him, the group is also engaging traditional rulers, market leaders, professionals and youths across the Southeast as part of its wider consultations.
Speaking on behalf of the clerics, Rev. Gilbert Umennadili of God’s Love Revival Ministries Inc. said Christians have a biblical responsibility to pray for those in authority and remain law-abiding citizens.
He urged churches across the Southeast to continue praying for Nigeria and its leaders, expressing confidence that the country’s challenges could be overcome through collective efforts and divine guidance.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Pentecostal denominations drawn from the five Southeast states.
