From the circulars from two critical offices of the federal government, a new corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), would soon emerge.

The circulars are from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and Office of the Head of Service of Federation (OHSoF).

A memo also from the FRSC has directed the incumbent corps marshal Dauda Biu to proceed on his retire leave.

Feelers from the OSGF indicated that Biu is expected to retire from the service on October 11, 2023.

One of the senior deputy corps marshals has reportedly been penciled down to succeed Biu.

According to a memo from the corps secretary, assistant corps marshal Susan Ajonge, Mr Biu ought to have commenced his retirement leave on July 11 this year.

In the retirement notice addressed to the corps marshal, “your retirement from the service takes effect from October 11, 2023 after 35 years of service.”

He was therefore advised in the memo that “your terminal leave would commence from July 11, 2023.”

The memo which was titled: “Pre-notice of retirement from service of FRSC, dated February 22, 2023 advised the corps marshal to liaise with the Corps Pension Office, Administration and Human Resources department RSHQ immediately for appropriate documentation.

The certainty of Biu’s exit is based the new circular from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, which directed that any director, more than eight years on the seat should put in his retirement letter.

The revised PSR 020909 stipulates that, “A director or its equivalent by whatever nomenclature it is described in MDAs shall compulsorily retire upon serving eight years on tenure policy on the post; and a permanent secretary shall hold office for a term of four years and renewable for a further term of four years, subject to satisfactory performance and no more.”

Going by the circular, over 500 directors are affected and are already abiding with the directive.

Efforts made to get the confirmation of the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the supervisor of FRSC, did not yield results.
