Stakeholders Advocate Disability-Inclusive Climate Action In Nigeria

Stakeholders in the climate and disability sectors have called for the integration of women and girls with disabilities into national climate policies and programs to enhance climate resilience across Nigeria.

Speaking at a media engagement organized in partnership with the Rise Up Together project, Grace Jerry, Executive Director of the Inclusive Friends Association (IFA), emphasized the critical need for journalists to report on disability-inclusive climate action.

Jerry stated that persons with disabilities, particularly women and girls, suffer disproportionately from climate-induced disasters such as floods and heatwaves, yet their experiences remain largely under-reported in mainstream media.

She urged media organizations to change the narrative by recognizing women and girls with disabilities as active leaders and solution providers in climate action, stressing that accessible climate information and services are vital to saving lives.
