Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, has emphasised the importance of stakeholders’ engagement in actualising the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) mandate, as the nation’s Port Economic Regulator.
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has identified stakeholders’ engagement as a panacea to achieving its mandate as the nation’s port economic regulator.
Dr Akutah Pius disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the executive members of the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing & Forwarding Agencies to the NSC’s Headquarters in Lagos.
Dr Akutah, who expressed the council’s readiness to partner with the association to drive the maritime sector forward, assured that the Council would listen to any issues brought to its attention and work collaboratively to address them.
Also, Celestine Akujobi, the director of the council’s Consumer Affairs Department, reiterated the council’s openness to specific partnerships with stakeholders.
Akujobi highlighted the NSC’s progress in engaging with stakeholders, particularly signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on a minimum wage standard.
Speaking earlier, Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu, the president general of the Senior Staff Association of Clearing & Forwarding Agencies (SSACFA), recognised the NSC as the nation’s port economic regulator and sought collaboration and guidance from the council.
He called on the NSC to partner with the association, protect it, and provide regulatory advice on matters that would promote the development of the maritime sector.
