Stakeholders in the transport sector have called for the total revitalisation of the Nigeria transport sector to meet international standards.
The stakeholders made the call at the Transporters for Tinubu (TFT) 2027 press briefing in Abuja yesterday.
Speaking at the briefing, the convener of the group, Dr. Segun Obayendo, expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu is in the best position to revitalise the transport sector with all the policies he has initiated already and called for support for his re-election in 2027.
He said, “Transporters for Tinubu is not a political club, it is a people’s movement. We are not waiting for change to come from above; we are organising from the ground up to make sure that the sector gets the attention, reforms, and investment it deserves.
“We have seen encouraging signs, road rehabilitation across several states, the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway nearing completion, the revival of the Abuja–Kaduna and Warri–Itakpe rail lines, and efforts to modernise our ports.
These are early steps in the right direction, but we must go further.”
The stakeholders noted that transporters are an integral part of the society “as every day across this nation, millions of Nigerians rely on transportation to work, trade, study, visit family, and live their lives, yet too often, our struggles are ignored.
That is why we are building this platform, Transporters for Tinubu 2027, to bring together over two million transporters nationwide to support and strengthen the vision of renewed infrastructure, better roads, safer journeys, and dignified work for all Nigerians in the transport industry.”
Speaking earlier, the national secretary of the group, Mrs. Chinwe Uwaegbute said, “we are here not merely as a support group, but as a critical mass of one of Nigeria’s most vital sectors of the transportation industry which directly and indirectly engages over 12 million Nigerians and serves as the lifeline of our national economy.
“We have come together under one umbrella because we have seen, felt, and believed in the transformative impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on Nigeria’s transport sector. From the ongoing revitalization of our railway systems, including the landmark Lagos-Ibadan rail and coastal rail projects, to the strategic push for CNG-powered transport and the massive investment in road infrastructure nationwide, this government has demonstrated that transportation is not an afterthought, but a key pillar of national development. This commitment extends to our skies, with the recent Federal Executive Council approval for the construction of the NAMA headquarters, the concession of Port Harcourt airport, and other critical aviation projects.
“We have witnessed firsthand the commitment to building not just roads and rails, but a modern, integrated, and sustainable transport ecosystem that connects people, powers commerce, and creates opportunities for millions.”
She further added that the mission of the group is to mobilize, educate, and galvanize transporters and transport stakeholders across all 774 local government areas in support of President Tinubu’s continuity agenda in 2027.
