For anyone interested in starting an ushering business, there exist a lot of things that need to be taken into consideration.

In a chat with a former usherette, Lycett Ajayi explains that, in any chosen business, there must be a feasibility study/market research that should first take place.

According to her, “Research the event industry to understand where the services are mostly requested for. Then, Identify specific niches or types of events where you will be mostly called for knowing you have shown excellent work ethics in service delivery. Such as weddings, corporate events, conferences, or trade shows.

“While it is pertinent to define the services and target. They should determine the specific services you will offer as an eventing business.

“As part of the requirement of creating an impression in this business, the ushers should be full of smiles and vigour while greeting and directing guests, assisting with seating arrangements, managing queues, providing information, and ensuring overall guest satisfaction.  Hence, the target market should be defined based on the types of events you plan to serve.

“There exists a need to create a business plan and develop a comprehensive outline of goals, target market, marketing strategies, pricing structure, financial projections, and operational details as this is a plan that should be stuck with by the business owner.

Lycett further states that, the ushering business should be registered as a legal entity with appropriate government agencies as it involves obtaining necessary licenses, permits, and tax registration as required by government regulations.

She, however, says, building a team of ushers should be meticulously done with background checks and training to ensure quality service delivery, adding that, “this should involve ushers who possess excellent communication skills, professionalism, and a friendly outlook at all times.

“Similarly, establishing relationships with event planners and venues: Reach out to event planners, wedding coordinators, organizers, and event venues to introduce the services “

Experts advises prospective entrepreneur to ensure that the brand conveys reliability and excellent customer service delivery through showcasing services and past successful events to attract potential clients.
