The communique issued at the end of the meeting, signed by the chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, who is the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, decried the falling value of the Naira and requested the monetary and fiscal authorities to find appropriate solutions to the challenges.

The meeting, which reviewed the state of the nation, noted the hardship being faced by Nigerians as a result of the forex crisis, removal of fuel subsidy and security challenges bedevilling the country.

It, therefore, urged the federal government to initiate sustainable policies with equal measures of courage to ameliorate the sufferings of the people.

The Conference particularly observed that in spite of the constitutional provisions that grant Financial Autonomy to the State Legislatures, the implementation has been observed in breach across the Federation.

On the security concerns, the communique urged the President to make a concerted effort to address the challenge, saying, “It is paramount to bolster collaborative efforts among security agencies, enhance intelligence gathering mechanisms, and engage in community-oriented policing strategies.”

The Speakers also called on all the relevant stakeholders to comply with all the provisions in the Constitution in all situations and not selectively in breach.

The Conference also appealed to the relevant political leaders in Rivers State to explore peaceful means to resolve the near impasse situation between the Legislative and Executive Arms of government of the state.
