An indigenous AI-powered e-commerce platform for bespoke and ready-to-wear African fashion, Stitches Africa, has secured a $50 million financing programme to support market expansion.
The funding includes merchant production financing, logistics development, and strategic product portfolio growth, as the e-commerce platform targets lovers of African attire and Africans in the diaspora.
Speaking in Lagos at the launch and announcement of the e-commerce platform, Stitches Africa, co-founder Franklin Peters remarked that there is a deliberate attempt to bring African attire and fashion to the West, offering the same experience the global West is accustomed to via its AI-powered tech platform.
He alluded that the digital fashion platform is poised to be at the top of the continent by revolutionising African couture and attire through the seamless e-commerce app that is easy to use for creatives and customers.
“Stitches Africa offers a marketplace for Africa. Fashion featuring bespoke and ready-to-wear items made in Africa, including clothing, accessories and other apparel,” said Peters.
Similarly, he asserted that the app features AI body measurement technology embedded within the platform, allowing users to generate and save measurements for accurate tailoring. This technology highlights individuality and craftsmanship, turning fashion dreams into reality with bespoke designs.
While identifying that African fashion designers face significant challenges in the global fashion marketplace due to a lack of access to funding, inaccurate measurements, inability to earn in forex and limited access to African fashion abroad, hindering diaspora from obtaining bespoke ready-to-wear attire.
He buttressed that the launch is addressing the challenges through the AI-guided platform, which facilitates onboarding of African creatives and customers, as its primary target is the international and diaspora market
While the firm suggests that the investment will enable Stitches Africa to scale its platform across key international markets and global corridors, it will also provide financing to designers, tailors, and fashion entrepreneurs within its ecosystem.
The partnership also includes structured funding for logistics infrastructure, enhancing distribution capacity and cross-border market access.
On her part, the head, Legal at Stitches Africa, Ntishorkara Monkom, said, “We are building the future of African fashion commerce, one that empowers creators, strengthens value chains, and connects African creativity to global markets”.
Consequently, she added, “This financing demonstrates strong confidence in the business model and the scale of opportunity Africa represents”
