Suleja Stakeholders Seek Opening Of U-Turn On Abuja-Kaduna Highway To Curb Accidents

The chairman of Suleja local government area, Hon. Isyaku Bawa Naibi, has appealed to the federal government and the contractor handling the Suleja axis of the dualisation of the Abuja -Kaduna Highway to open the U-Turn section to reduce the high rate of accidents on the road.

LEADERSHIP findings revealed that fatal auto crashes had claimed several lives and vehicles following the closure of the U-Turn around Stanel and Total Filling Stations.

It was also gathered that the closure of the U-Turn by the contractor handling part of the dualisation had led to loss of man hours for workers living in Suleja and work in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Consequently, the LG chairman acting on the outcry by motorists and other stakeholders from Suleja in a letter made available to LEADERSHIP appealed that the engineers handling the project to open the U-Turn.

In the letter dated 1st September, 2026, Naibi said the report by security agencies including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) raised same concerns about the rate of accident as a result of the closure of the U-Turn.

He said the request had become imperative despite the highway laws, in view of the negative impact.
The chairman reiterated that in view of the necessity of his request, he hoped that the federal government and the contractor would consider his request passionately and appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the laudable project.
