Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho has added another major honour to his career after helping Celtic clinch the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership title.
The Hoops secured their 56th league crown in dramatic fashion on Saturday, coming from behind to beat Hearts 3-1 at a raucous Celtic Park (Paradise).
The match had high stakes: Celtic needed a win to guarantee the title, and they delivered in front of their home supporters. Hearts stunned the home crowd in the 38th minute when Austrian defender Michael Steinwender rose highest to head the visitors into a shock lead.
However, Celtic’s response was immediate. Just before half-time, in the 44th minute, Arne Engels stepped up and calmly converted a penalty to restore parity, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.
The second half belonged entirely to Martin O’Neill’s men. Japanese winger Daizen Maeda put Celtic ahead in the 58th minute with a clinical finish, before substitute Callum Osmand sealed the victory with a late third goal in the 82nd minute.
The win sparked wild celebrations as the trophy remained at Paradise for another season.
Iheanacho, who joined Celtic from Sevilla prior to the 2025/26 campaign, played a key role in the title run. Against Hearts, he was introduced at halftime in place of Sebastian Tounekti, adding energy and experience up front as the Hoops overturned the deficit.
The 29-year-old has now scored eight goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season, proving to be a valuable attacking asset for the Scottish champions.
The final league table confirmed Celtic atop with 82 points, just two points clear of a valiant Hearts side who pushed them all the way.
For Martin O’Neill, this title marks another triumph in his managerial career, while for Iheanacho, it’s yet another winner’s medal to add to his collection
