A touching video of Taiwo Awoniyi at a church service led by Apostle Joshua Selman has gained attention online.

During his sermon, Selman spotted the Nottingham Forest striker in the congregation and acknowledged his presence. He then offered prayers for the footballer, saying it was encouraging to see him in church.

The cleric stressed that he was not speaking out of fanaticism or trying to make Awoniyi a religious figure. He said God had already blessed the footballer with success in his career.

Selman prayed for greater grace and excellence in Awoniyi’s life. He noted that the player’s calling is on the football pitch, not in the pulpit. He added that the grace received in God’s presence would continue to set him apart in his profession.

“I just spotted Awoniyi. It is good that you are in the house of God. I am not saying it out of fanaticism. I am saying it because he is in church to learn balance. We are not raising him to be a fanatic; God has already elevated him in sport. If he remains a member here without fulfilling his purpose, we are wasting his time.”
