Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have opened camp in Ikenne as preparations intensify for their international friendly matches against Senegal.
Head coach Justine Madugu named a 23-player squad for the two high-profile encounters, with players expected to begin arriving at camp following the release of the official itinerary by the team’s media department.
Both friendly matches will take place at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, Ogun State. The first fixture is scheduled for Friday, 5 June, while the second meeting will be played on Monday, 8 June.
The friendlies form a crucial part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be hosted by Morocco in July.
The Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s national team, will use the matches to fine-tune tactics, assess squad depth and build cohesion ahead of the continental tournament.
Madugu is expected to blend experience with emerging talent as Nigeria seek to mount another serious challenge for continental honours.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt, a group widely regarded as competitive and potentially challenging.
Senegal, meanwhile, will face hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya in Group A.
The forthcoming WAFCON carries added significance beyond continental supremacy, as the tournament will also serve as Africa’s qualification pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Only the four semi-finalists will secure automatic qualification to represent the continent at the global showpiece.
For the Super Falcons, the Senegal friendlies offer an important opportunity to sharpen competitive edge and reinforce their ambition of reclaiming continental dominance while securing an early World Cup ticket.
